At this very site, in 1803, when Souli finally submitted to Ali Pasha, 63 local women along with their children fell from the cliff dancing and singing. They prefered to die free than live a life in slavery.
To reach the memorial (constructed in 1961) you have to climb up 410 steps starting from the monastery of Aghios Dimitrios.
In memory of this heroic sacrifice special events take place on the second Sunday of August every year.
